How AI is moving from concept to implementation in packaging manufacturing

Artificial intelligence has been one of the most talked-about technologies in manufacturing over the past few years, but at ProPak Asia 2026, the conversation appears to be shifting from experimentation to implementation.

This year’s exhibition has placed digitalisation at the centre of its packaging and processing agenda, with a dedicated DigitalizationAsia zone highlighting how AI, automation, IoT and robotics are increasingly being integrated into factory operations.

Among the technologies being highlighted at ProPak Asia 2026 are advanced automation and control systems such as Beckhoff’s PC-based platforms, which are increasingly being used to connect machine operations, data analytics and predictive maintenance into more integrated production environments.

For packaging manufacturers, these technologies are helping to improve machine efficiency, reduce downtime and strengthen production visibility — key areas as smart manufacturing becomes more widely adopted across Asia.

At the same time, growing sustainability requirements and increasing use of recycled materials are also driving demand for better traceability and data transparency across packaging operations.

The technologies on display at ProPak Asia suggest that AI is becoming less about future potential and more about practical industrial application. As smart manufacturing gains traction across Asia, packaging companies may soon find that competitive advantage will depend not only on production speed, but on how intelligently their operations are managed.
